An often asked question and as hard to answer as "Whats the best tyre", as like tyres, tyre pressures change depending on many factors such as; rider weight, tyre size, terrain & rail conditions, style of riding.
The website below gives a pretty accurate starting point for tyre pressures to use. From there you can experiment and tweak them to see how different changes affect your ride.
For me it suggests 35psi rear and 32psi front, that's pretty spot on for the most part for XC riding, however if I'm going to be riding a bit harder or on rougher ground I like to have the front pressure a bit lower at 25psi.
As always, what woks for one person most likely will be different for another so experiment to find what suits you best :)
