My original plans to get to one trail centre a month this year quickly went awry after two months due to transport limitations. So in an effort to do something different I found a fairly local "XC" style event run by TrailBreaks.co.uk.
As I spend the majority of my time riding alone I figured it would also be nice to see how I fared against other riders. The weather being nice the week before it typically lashed it downright before the weekend so I was glad to have checked the weather forecast and only signed up for the 40km, expecting plenty of mud!

I was correct on the mud so pretty much a normal Saturday ride ... except I missed the turn off on the route for the 40km ride, whilst head down and following another chap, and ended up doing the 65km endurance route. Not so bad, 38 miles being the furthest I'd ridden until then and the endurance route being 41 miles. However the addition of sticky mud clogging the bike up and weighing it down plus some serious hills over in the Chilterns = very sore leg for a few days after.

The event hosting itself was great with water stations, a food station for the endurance ride and hot food available at the end ... mmmm chilli! Being timed was also an option if riders wanted.

A hard day out but also a good day and will be looking at going to another one this year.
