You don't need to but it should would make biking a heck of a lot more enjoyable.
All I have is a boring, muddy dirt road to bike and that's about it. It's good for exercise but it isn't very fun.
Europe on the other hand has some of the most beautiful and scenic cycling routes in the world. I've got to go there some time!
That's very true Ken, and there is certainly something about the awe-inspiring vastness of those places. Europe has a huge amount of riding to choose from too.
Try using some of the online maps to see what places are near you to ride, you might be surprised and find some new areas you wouldn't have otherwise discovered. If you have a car then you can drive a little further away and that opens up new places to ride too. Good luck
